I recently read the Anthony Briggs translation and it was very good although having not read any other translations I can't compare it to them. I haven't read War and Peace yet, but I did just finish the Pevear and Volokhnosky translation of Anna Karenina, and a month or so ago their translation of Crime and Punishment. I tried the Constance Garnett translations that have been around forever, but I found them dry and lacking voice. I certainly can't read Russian and compare them against each in the native language, however I found that the P & V translations flowed a lot better than other versions.
